Getting Familiar With The Different Types Of MCBs For Different Needs

Miniature circuits breakers (MCB) are electromechanical devices are significantly better and safer in preventing accidents caused by the overflow of current within an electrical circuit. Depending on where it is being used, an MCB are of following types.
On the basis of tripping characteristics
Based on the manner in which an MCB trips over a range of fault currents, it can be categorized into the following three types.

•    Type B MCB: These MCBs trip when they receive a current load that is 3-5 times more than they are designed to handle, and hence are most suitable for suitable for residential and light commercial uses.

•    Type C MCB: The MCB trips when it receives a current load that is 5-10 times more than the maximum limit, which makes it suitable for commercial and industrial application.

•    Type D MCB: Designed for specialty industry and commercial purposes, these MCBs are designed to trip only upon receiving current loads in excess of 10-20 times the normal load.
On the basis of number of poles
Based on the number of poles supported by the MCB, it can be classified into the following

•    Single Pole: These MCBs offer protection and switching solutions only for single phase circuits.

•    Double Pole: This type of MCB is designed to provide switching and protection for the phase as well as the neutral of the current.

•    Triple Pole: Contrary to the popular belief, these MCBs do not offer protection for the neutral but only the three phases of current.

•    Three Pole with Neutral: This MCB is designed to protect the three phases of the current but offers only switching facility for the neutral without protecting it.

•    Four Pole: This is the most versatile of all MCBs as it offers protection and switching for all the three phases of current along with the neutral.

Where to find the best quality MCB?
Well the fact is that there are many options available which you can select to but MCB for your use. You can visit the retail electrical shops in your city for MCB and can find many models both of branded as well as of non-branded companies.
